Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes Biography
Kate Noelle "Katie" Holmes was born on December 18, 1978 in Toledo, Ohio to Kathleen and Martin Joseph Holmes, Sr. She is the youngest in a family of five children. Katie attended Christ the King Church and parochial schools in Toledo, while her high school was the all-female Notre Dame Academy where she was a 4.0 student. She appeared in school musicals, playing Lola in Damn Yankees and a waitress in Hello, Dolly! Katie scored 1310 on her SAT and was accepted to Columbia University but only attended a summer session. At the age of fourteen, Katie attended a modeling school in Toledo and attended a New York City talent expo in 1996. Katie found an agent there and she sent an audition tape for Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm (1997), and was cast as Libbets Casey because Katie “had the perfect amount of innocence and worldliness that we needed for Libbets.”

In January 1997, Columbia Tri-Star Television, producer of a new show created by screenwriter Kevin Williamson, asked her to come to Los Angeles to audition but Katie was unavailable. She sent her audition piece for “Joey Potter” via videotape and got the role that made her famous worldwide. According to Williamson, Katie had exactly the right look for Joey Potter. “She had those eyes, those eyes just stained with loneliness.” Dawson’s Creek popularized Katie and she was labeled “The Audrey Hepburn of her generation”. Time called her “impossibly lovely” and Entertainment Weekly said she was “next up for idolhood”. Dawson's Creek ran from 1998 to 2003, and Katie was the only actor to appear in all 128 episodes. In 2004, she said: “It was very difficult for me to leave Wilmington, to have my little glass bubble burst and move on. I hate change. On the other hand it was refreshing to play someone else.”

While playing Joey, Katie still had time to make movies on the side. After The Ice Storm in 1997, she got her first leading role in Disturbing Behavior (1998) for which she won an MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. In 1999, she had two movies: Go and Teaching Mrs. Tingle. In 2000, Katie had a small but critically acclaimed role in Wonder Boys, and bared her breasts in The Gift with Keanu Reeves. She kept busy the next few years with Abandon (2002), Phone Booth (2002), The Singing Detective (2003), and Pieces of April (2003) for which she was praised as “one of her best film performances.” In 2004, Katie played the First Daughter and in 2005, she played Batman’s childhood sweetheart in the hugely successful Batman Begins, and appeared in Thank You for Smoking with Aaron Eckhart.

Katie Holmes has always dated her fellow actors. She dated Joshua Jackson during the first season and part of the second season of Dawson’s Creek. Then Katie met actor Chris Klein in 2000, and were engaged in late 2003. But in early 2005, they ended their citing busy careers as a reason. Weeks after her relationship with Chris Klein ended, Katie began dating actor Tom Cruise. Few months later, on June 17, Tom Cruise proposed atop Paris's Eiffel Tower and Katie accepted. On October 6,2005, the duo now known as TomKat, announced they were expecting a child. On April 18, 2006, Katie gave birth at Saint John's Health Center in California to a daughter they named Suri. Tom Cruise finally married Katie on November 10, 2006 in a star-studded Scientology ceremony at the 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy. Their publicist said that TomKat had "officialized" their marriage in Los Angeles the day before the Italian ceremony.
