Katie Holmes is best known as Joey Potter in the long-running popular drama teen series Dawson's Creek. She is also known as Mrs. Tom Cruise, and the half of the media monster named TomKat. Aside from Dawson's Creek, Katie also appeared in movies. She first landed a role in 1997 for Ang Lee's The Ice Storm. Katie's first leading role was in Disturbing Behavior (1998) for which she won an MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. In 1999, she had two movies: Go and Teaching Mrs. Tingle. In 2000, Katie had a small but critically acclaimed role in Wonder Boys, and bared her breasts in The Gift with Keanu Reeves. She kept busy the next few years with Abandon (2002), Phone Booth (2002), The Singing Detective (2003), and Pieces of April (2003) for which she was praised as "one of her best film performances." In 2004, Katie played the First Daughter and in 2005, she played Batman's childhood sweetheart in the hugely successful Batman Begins, and appeared in Thank You for Smoking with Aaron Eckhart.
Right now, Katie Holmes is in Paris, France with the family on the set of Tom Cruise's new movie Valkyrie (a World War II film). She was seen going shopping while dressed up like a man in a black trench coat, men's Oxford shirt, pleated gabardine pants, and tasseled loafers. Katie spent the morning browsing through local art galleries before having a solo lunch at the Hotel Costes. After the hearty lunch, Mrs. Tom Cruise strolled around Saint-Germain-des-Pres with lucky fans taking photographs side by side Katie. She was even seen holding the camera and was the one taking the picture for the fan! Katie Holmes was also recently lauded as one of People magazine's Best Dressed celebrities. According to People, "Katie Holmes is one of the most remarkable style evolutions. She's always very simple, very elegant and her clothes fit her perfectly." Thus, she was named "The Classic" on the top 10 list.
Katie Holmes last appeared in a film last 2005. The actress was supposed to star in Shame on You, a biopic about the country singer Spade Cooley. However, the film which was set to shoot in New Orleans was delayed by Hurricane Katrina, and Katie dropped out because of her pregnancy. She has since focused her life being a mother to Suri and a wife to Tom Cruise who is an avowed Scientology follower. Thus, Katie was rumored to have been coerced or "brainwashed" into the said religion. Add to that was the fact that Katie fired her long-time manager and agent, and got a new "best friend" in the person of Jessica Rodriguez, a "royalty" in the Church of Scientology. Reports were ripe that Jessica is Katie's Scientology "minder", and she follows the Dawson's Creek alum everywhere and tells her what to say during interviews. Katie has since denied all allegations.

Katie Holmes is ready to 'get a move on' in regard to her career. She has been riding the mommy train, for several years and is anxious to get back to work. Her last movie was Mad Money, which premiered in 2005… rather unsuccessfully.
She was recently seen power lunching with her former manager, John Carrabino, in L.A.
They spoke at length about jump-starting her career. Her hiatus is history and work is her focus.
Does this mean that hunky hubby, Tom Cruise, will assume the role of stay at home dad? Highly doubtful, but in Hollywood anything can happen, right?
